The BIG STEP Campaign

Thanks to the community's contributions in helping in the funding development of the Demonstration Trail, the "The BIG STEP" Campaign was developed to take our fundraising to the next level. The funding from this campaign will enhance our current trail, augment it, provide for trail maintenance and next step planning.

Only a few viewpoints are left. Some offer spectacular panoramic ocean views or views into the arroyos. Many of the sites will be vantage points over gardens that will be developed in the future.

This exciting, expansive opportunity is time sensitive. Funds are needed to continue Phase II and to begin the funding for Phase III.

Please, walk the trail, stop at the designated points, observe a moment of silence, gaze out towards the ocean, view the arroyo, breathe in, feel the tranquility this place creates.

If you are interested in helping us take "The BIG STEP" there are naming opportunities ranging from $10K to $300K. Please contact Robert Warnagieris.

Together, we need to do this now!

Donor Bill of Rights

Philanthropy is based on voluntary action for the common good. It is a tradition of giving and sharing that is primary to the quality of life. To assure that philanthropy merits the respect and trust of the general public, and that donors and prospective donors can have full confidence in the nonprofit organizations and causes they are asked to support, we declare that all donors have these rights:

I. To be informed of the organization's mission, of the way the organization intends to use donated resources, and of its capacity to use donations effectively for their intended purposes.

II. To be informed of the identity of those serving on the organization's governing board, and to expect the board to exercise prudent judgment in its stewardship responsibilities.

III. To have access to the organization's most recent financial statements.

IV. To be assured their gifts will be used for the purposes for which they were given.

V. To receive appropriate acknowledgement and recognition.

VI. To be assured that information about their donation is handled with respect and with confidentiality to the extent provided by law.

VII. To expect that all relationships with individuals representing organizations of interest to the donor will be professional in nature.

VIII. To be informed whether those seeking donations are volunteers, employees of the organization or hired solicitors.

IX. To have the opportunity for their names to be deleted from mailing lists that an organization may intend to share.

X. To feel free to ask questions when making a donation and to receive prompt, truthful and forthright answers.

Foot By Foot Campaign

VBG Foot by Foot

Our first installation, the Demonstration Trail, opened on October 20, 2012 with a big community celebration. We built that wonderful trail Foot by Foot.

Everyone is welcome. You can hike it, stroll it, rock ’n’ roll it, walk your dogs, bring your camera, bring your paints, bring your sweetheart, bring your imaginary friend, enjoy the view, enjoy the air. The first portion, from the upper parking lot behind City Hall, gently climbs 1400 feet to a viewing area overlooking the city and the ocean and is accessible via wheelchair.

This is your opportunity to buy a foot, or as many feet as you’d like. Each foot is $50. Buy two feet for yourself, buy a foot or two or more for everyone in your family, buy some for your friends. So far, donors have purchased feet as birthday gifts, wedding gifts, holiday gifts, as Valentines, in honor of friends and family and in memory of loved ones.
Have a dog? Buy four feet! Have two dogs? Buy eight! Buy ten feet as a wedding gift and send the new couple on the right path. Make them a part of history. Our donors are acknowledged here and in our newsletter, and personalized certificates will be sent via email for each donation.

As we maintain this trail and plan to build others, your help is invaluable. Please put your best foot forward. It’s good for your health and good for your soul. It’s good for all of us as we continue to make the Gardens a reality.
